Whistler

Whistler once was a sleepy little ski town now it’s been developed into a world class ski resort.

Not only is Whistler a Vancouver (pronounced “Vancoover”) ski resort it has also developed itself into a year round resort.

Winter activities like down-hill skiing, cross-country skiing and snow-boarding are replaced in the summertime with rock climbing, hiking and mountain biking.

Popular here any time of year are luxury hotel accommodations not to mention luxury dining, shopping, day spas and galleries.

Sea to Sky Highway, Whistler

To get to there you take the Sea to Sky Highway which is 120 kilometers or 75 miles of some of the most incredible scenery.

It’s a very windy road that travels along the coastline of Howe Sound and the pullouts along the way are some of the best places to take pictures.

On the way up to Whistler you’ll pass some small residential communities and attractions like the beautiful little seaside village of Horseshoe Bay where you can catch a ferry to Bowen Island.

Just past Horseshoe Bay is Lions Bay with golf courses, mountain trails and sandy beaches.

On the way to Whistler

As you keep driving along you’ll notice a big dump truck on your right hand side that’s Britannia Mines where there’s a mining museum. Britannia Mines used to be the largest producing mine in the Common Wealth. This is also great spot to stop and check out a number of Native Art galleries.

Not far from here is the Shannon Falls waterfall and a granite mountain called the Chief that’s popular with rock climbers. If you stop and look at it carefully you’ll notice that it looks like a (Native) Indian Chief in full headdress lying down.

From here you’ll come to Squamish and then Brackendale which is famous for the Brackendale Eagle Count every winter…it’s the largest eagle count in the world.

From here it’s only 40 kilometers or another 25 miles to Whistler Resort and if you’re lucky on your drive up you may see black bears along the highway and if you do please don’t get out of your car for a closer look.
