Whistler Ski Resort Winter Paradise
Whistler Ski Resort is the twin home of the Vancouver and Whistler 2010 Olympic Games.
The mountains of the resort will host the Alpine events.
Other winter Olympic events happening at Whistler are:
Whistler Ski Resort is well known as a premiere skiing and snowboarding playground.
In fact it is one of the best ski and snowboard resorts in North America and even the world!
Two mountains Whistler Mountain and Blackcomb Peak make up the foundation of Whistler skiing paradise.
Whistler ski resort has the largest ski area in North America and the ski season is definitely one of the longest. Ski season can start around the middle of November and sometimes you can enjoy late season skiing all the way into early June for the hard-core skier or snow boarder of course!
Whistler is only two hours from most downtown Vancouver hotels. To get to the best ski resort in the world you can drive there by car or you can take the whistler express ski bus from the Vancouver greyhound bus station and enjoy the ride along the sea to sky highway.
The ski resort in Whistler is very popular with tourists and locals alike. Winter vacationers come from around the world to enjoy some of the best ski conditions anywhere.
Those of us who live in Vancouver like to take mini daytrips from the city and get up to Whistler to hit the slopes.
Once you get there the place to start is in the center of everything right in Whistler Village where only pedestrian traffic is allowed.
If you drive you will have to park your vehicle at one of the parking areas that surround the village.
The village is right at the bottom of the two mountains and this is where you get on the gondola.
In the village you can rent a Whistler timeshare condo or vacation property for your ski weekend.
There are also shops, restaurants, hotels with luxury spa services and clubs with night entertainment.
Whistler and Blackcomb mountains combined have over 200 trails, 38 chairlifts and gondolas and nearly a mile of vertical drop which is one of the many reasons that it was chosen with Vancouver to host the 2010 winter Olympic Games.
You can travel between the mountains from the top of one mountain to the top of the other one on the new high-speed gondola called the Peak to Peak Gondola.
Besides the skiing at Whistler Ski Resort there are many other winter activities and ways to enjoy a mountain full of snow with the family, a group or on your own.
