When It Snows In Vancouver
When it snows in Vancouver (pronounced “Vancoover”) it becomes a different city where the usual places to see become whole new attractions. The colors of the totem poles in Stanley Park pop out against the background of snow. And, a drive around Stanley park is a trip through a winter wonderland. Normally, the mild and rainy Vancouver winters means everything stays green. And, winter flowering plants continue to bloom. But, the only thing growing this November (2006) is the snow-banks! Two days and 40cm (15 inches) of snow in some areas with another storm expected promising to bring with it 20cm (7 inches) of more snow before changing to freezing rain.
When it snows in Vancouver, the roads get quiet and everyone hunkers down waiting for the severe threat ;-) to pass. Every shovel in the city is accounted for and schools are closed. All the snow means already world class skiing at Whistler is even more fabulous. This is just what we want when the world come to visit. Looking forward to the Vancouver and Whistler 2010 Olympic Winter Games, Illanaaq, the symbol of the Games is well pleased.
