Vancouver Olympics and the stars of the show

by Charles
(Tokyo, Japan)

The Vancouver Olympics have started well, apart from the lack of snow and unseasonal warm weather in the city itself. There was the sad matter of a competitor’s death just before the start of competition which cast a dark shadow over the opening ceremony.

Now that the competition has started, the U.S.A. looks like the team to beat in the race to the top of the medal tally. By the end of the first weekend, they had a handful of gold medals in the bag already, and this is surely going to continue to rise over the coming days.

The excellent snow conditions in the eastern states of the US over the past couple of months have surely made for some excellent training conditions for their athletes which other countries such as Canada have not had the fortune to have.

I think the stars of the Vancouver Olympics will come from the US. Shaun White will be the male star of the Olympics.

He is already well known around the world as a half pipe specialist, and his recent victory will only catapult him to greater heights.

On the women’s side, Lindsey Vonn will surely be the star of the Olympics. She has the looks, charm and skills to be the next winter sports superstar, and her recent victory has already made her a household name across the globe.
