The Vancouver Library
The Vancouver library is one of the “must see” sites in the city and one of the favorite places in the city to be in the many movies filmed in Vancouver.
The amount of times that visitors to the city have taken pictures of the library during their trip here is probably equal to the population of Vancouver! The building has the feeling of Roman coliseum and the city's metro vibe blends the two together. Only steps from the Vancouver opera center, the Ford Center for Performing Arts, BC Place Stadium, (home of the BC Lions football team...Go Lions!, home of the Vancouver Canucks Hockey team (Go Canucks!) and known locally as “The Garage”) and the Queen Elizabeth Theatre makes it a popular place to visit. You’ll find during in the warmer months when the weather in Vancouver lives up to its reputation lots of people sitting on the steps and benches of the library having their lunch or coffee break, taking in the warm weather and spending their time people watching or just reading a Vancouver newspaper during their break. Regardless of the Vancouver weather, the Vancouver library is always a great idea and since it’s close to all the downtown Vancouver hotels, B& B’s and hostels, if you are visiting the city on a budget you can also check your email there as well so you don’t miss anything while you’re traveling! It’s also a place to sit back relax and read the Vancouver newspapers (Vancouver Sun and The Province newspaper) to catch up on the local Vancouver news especially if you are a hockey fan and want to check up on the Canucks schedule so you can catch a game while you’re here!
The library has also been seen in many of the movies Vancouver has been the home for such as The Sixth Day starring Arnold Schwarzenegger (an action movie about cloning) from many of the popular TV series filmed in Vancouver from X Files in the early 90’s to present day. Many of us here in Vancouver watch movies and see a background and say “hey that looks like....” or “Hey, isn’t that the Vancouver library?” and by the time we realize that it is, the show has gone onto something else! Getting to the Vancouver library is easy because not only is it in downtown area and near all the downtown Vancouver hotels, it is also easy to get to using Vancouver transit (public transit) For those not staying in the downtown core, you can get to it using public transit which is a great idea because the parking in Vancouver can be literally brutal trying to find a parking spot.
Make sure you bring lots of change to feed the “no-arm bandits (aka parking meters!). The traffic and parking authority are very good at what they do, as are the tow trucks!
