Vancouver Car Rentals; Not Necessarily Necessary
An important part of planning your Vancouver holiday is researching Vancouver car rentals and which companies offer the best deals. You might want to decide if getting a Vancouver car rental is even necessary.
Vancouver public transit system is extremely accessible and efficient.
You can get nearly anywhere you need to go (in the main downtown and surrounding areas) by public transit (including train, bus, or water ferry), short cab rides, or walking.
Of course, deciding whether you need a car rental in Vancouver or not depends on where you want to go.
Also, where you are staying will make a difference.
Downtown Vancouver hotels, obviously, will be more accessible to the downtown attractions; whereas if you are staying outside the city (or want to explore outside the city) then you might need a car.
Finally, weather is a factor.
Visiting Vancouver in the summer, then you most likely will want to walk the city but in the midst of the rainy months you might not want to walk as much.
Before you even get here, get a good downtown Vancouver map and decide where you are staying, and where your “home base” will be.
This is a fast and affordable way to get to your hotel without the hassles of a Vancouver car rental.
Then, decide what you hope to see during your stay.
Each of these are located in the downtown area, and can get to the easily from most hotels by train, bus, walking, or short cab.
Even if you want to explore some of the main attractions outside the city, like Whistler, Victoria, or the Capilano Suspension Bridge, you don’t necessarily need a car. Many Vancouver tours stop at Capilano, and you can take a bus or a train along the scenic Sea to Sky highway to Whistler.
Even a day trip to Victoria can be accomplished without a car, although you will have to plan it out carefully.
The most challenging part is to get to and from the ferry terminal in Vancouver and then when you reach Vancouver Island; but it is easily done by bus or planned tours.
On the other hand, if you decide to rent a car, you can take your car since it is a vehicle ferry.
Just keep in mind that there is a “rush hour” with the ferries, just like on the highway. Since a lot of people use the Vancouver ferry system to get to and from work allow extra time during peak hours.
Of course, if you want to get outside the city (other than Whistler or Victoria) then perhaps you can look into Vancouver car rentals for just a day. This will let you to get outside the city and see some parts of BC other than Vancouver.
