The Vancouver BC Airport

The Vancouver BC airport isn’t actually in the city it’s located in the suburb of Richmond about seven miles from the center of Vancouver.

Many people get confused when they are looking for the airport online. They end up finding information from the web on the airport in Vancouver Washington which is a 6 hour drive away from our city.

Both cities share the same name of the famous explorer Captain George Vancouver so it does get confusing as does the spelling of it compared to how it is pronounced spelled Vancouver and pronounced Vancoover.

The Vancouver, BC airport initials are “YVR” so if you keep this in mind in the future it will be a big help.

From the Vancouver airport it's a quick 20 minute drive to the city's downtown depending on traffic.

Coming in from the airport into the city one of the first things you’ll notice is the mountains in the background and how clean and pristine the city really is.

As you enter the city, you’ll come over a hill and then see Vancouver unfold before your eyes with the North Vancouver Mountains in the background welcoming you to our fair city.

Then as you come closer to the downtown hotels you’ll be treated to a wonderful view of the harbours and parks which are just a few of the sites to see in Vancouver BC.

The airport has undergone many recent upgrades as it prepares for the 2010 Olympic Games and beyond.

A rapid rail transit system is scheduled to be complete in time for the games.

This light rail transit route is called “The Canada Line” and will bring visitors arriving at the Vancouver BC airport right into downtown Vancouver in minutes…even during rush-hour in the city!

That means you’ll have even more time to see the sights of Vancouver and especially the “must see” sights like Stanley Park, English Bay the Vancouver Aquarium and so many of the others!

The Vancouver airport is well organized and is decorated throughout with huge native sculptures. It has also won several international best airport awards.
