Science World Vancouver

Science World Vancouver

Science World sits on the eastern edge of the downtown core.

It's a big stainless steel structure that looks like a gigantic golf ball and at night it's lit up with thousands of lights.

Science World was originally built as one of the major pavilions for the world fair expo ’86 that was held in Vancouver (pronounced "Vancoover").

Later on it was converted to a world of marvel and wonder.

This is a place where you can find the answers to how science works in everyday life.

Even the names of the exhibits are fun.

There was one exhibit called “Grossology: The impolite science of the human body” where you got to find out the answers to such intriguing questions like where snot comes from and all about human gas. (not the kind you put in your gas tank!)

At Science World you can learn about and experience science hands on. With five live science demonstrations everyday and tons of displays to play with you can blow square bubbles, play the piano with your feet, peek inside a beehive and touch the fur of a grizzly bear.

Science World Vancouver

Science World is also where you will find the Alcan Omni-max Theatre. 400 people at a time can watch the shows in this all-around theatre and they last about 40 minutes.

It feels so real it can be dizzying to find yourself hurling around a track in a race car or exploring the reaches of outer space.

It’s also amusing to watch the people in the theater as they react to the movie and leaning in their seats when the race car takes a big corner.

This is a great place for both adults and kids. In fact, I think adults take kids to see the movies as an excuse to go because they really want to see it!

It’s pretty straight forward to get to Science World. Hop on the skytrain and get off at the Main Street/Science World exit.

Or if you’re staying in downtown Vancouver it’s just a short pleasant walk along the False Creek seawall especially in good weather.
