Romantic Oregon Coast

Tony Thomas says the romantic Oregon coast is all about getting away from it all. Tony Thomas, Romantic Orgeon Coast

Our thanks to Tony for this Why Vancouver interview.

He talks to us about the sights, special things to do and how to spend a romantic vacation.

WhyVancouver.com: Your site is very informative and your passion really comes through, what inspired you to create Romantic Oregon Coast Vacations?

Tony: My parents used to take me to the Oregon coast when I was a kid and I really loved it. My passion for it has only grown stronger over the years.

Since it is such a passion, I knew it would be the perfect niche for my 1st Site Build It web site in 2006.

I also love the chance to share how wonderful it is with others. I've heard from some of my visitors that my passion is what keeps them at my web site.

WhyVancouver.com: What are your top 10 favorite things about the Oregon Coast that you like to tell people about?

Tony: Let's see....top 10 favorite things about the Oregon coast.....

  1. Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach
  2. The Pixie Kitchen
  3. Dungeness crab
  4. The romance of the Oregon coast
  5. The delicious coffee there
  6. Tide pooling
  7. Whale watching
  8. Ghost stories on the Oregon coast
  9. The lovely lighthouses
  10. The mysteries and stories of Pirates and their treasure

WhyVancouver.com: What are some of the romantic things to do on the Oregon coast?

Tony: For the adults, find a nice hotel with an indoor or outdoor hot tub, right on the beach and walks together in the sand as the sun sets.

For families, have everyone go down to Newport's Old Bay Front. Have a bread bowl of clam chowder at the original Mo's or the Annex, go to the Undersea Gardens or the Waxworks Museum, head down to the docks and either do some crabbing or watch the sea lions as they relax there. It's very amusing watching them bark at each other to keep their little piece of dock. hehe.

WhyVancouver.com: What advice can you offer visitors to the Oregon coast about booking a romantic or honeymoon accommodations?

Tony: Do your homework (my site can help with that). If it's during storm season, find someplace you can hunker down in for a few days and watch the sea throw a fit.

The most important thing is to not rush and enjoy the stay, no matter the time of year. The Oregon coast is all about getting away from it all.

WhyVancouver.com: What memorable or "special" feedback do you get from visitors to the Oregon coast?

Tony: My main demographic is women, particularly brides-to-be who are planning their coastal weddings. I've gotten numerous emails from them, thanking me for the site because it helped them plan their wedding and/or honeymoon.

I love those! They keep me inspired.

WhyVancouver.com: What kinds of dining/restaurant selections are available along the Oregon coast and which one's are your personal favorites?

Tony: I'm not a fancy kind of guy. Anything with a good view and great seafood is a winner with me.

Look for the same and you won't go wrong. My personal favorites are the ones that bring back childhood memories: The Pixie Kitchen (which, sadly, is no longer there) and Lil Sambos.

WhyVancouver.com: Are there any specific tours, activities or special events that you'd recommend?

Tony: Rent some gear from a bait shop and go crabbing or clamming. Tour the lighthouses along the Oregon coast. Go for the Lincoln City Kite Festival and the Sandcastle Festival. Tour the Tillamook Cheese Factory. Take an ocean charter or helicopter tour. Rent a Funcycle and race over the sand...on and on...

There is so much to do, people can't get bored. It's all on my website. ;)

WhyVancouver.com: If you could sum up the Oregon coastline in one phrase, what would that be and what memory do you most want people who visit the coast and your site to take home with them?

Tony: I sat and thought about this and a single phrase is impossible for me.

Making memories is so important, especially with your children. Do everything you have time for. If you run out of time, go back again!

Play, refresh yourselves. Stay for a day or for a lifetime.

WhyVancouver.com: What are the seasonal temperatures on the coast and is there an "off-season" when visitors can still enjoy their romantic vacation?

Tony: The temperatures are fairly mild, staying around the 60s and 70s. The past few summers, the Oregon coast has actually seen it get into the 80s and 90s.

The further South you go, the warmer it is. October is known as "Second Summer" and it stays very comfortable.

Some people enjoy the sun and some enjoy the storms. You can please both types of people there.

WhyVancouver.com: Is there anything special you would like to tell our readers about the
