Lawn Bowling in Vancouver

The Lawn Bowling Club at Stanley Park probably has one of the prettiest locations in the world to play this sport.

The grounds are beautifully manicured and surrounded by rose bushes.

Lawn Bowling Stanley Park Vancouver

The bowling green is tucked in just past Third Beach right near the Fish House Restaurant.

I’ve never tried this sport but it seems like a nice gentle activity and another great way that people in Vancouver (pronounced “Vancoover”) like to keep fit and stay active.

You can join the Lawn Bowling Club and take lessons... and while there are tournaments the league seems quite social with events like barbeques throughout the season and the part I like best is they have tea after bowling!

Lawn bowling doesn’t seem to be too complicated what you have to do is get the bowl (the round object that they toss. It’s rounder on one side that the other and it curves once it starts to slow down) as close as possible to a small white ball called a jack.

The team that get closest to the jack gets one point for each bowl closer to the jack than the nearest one from the other team.

You don’t need much equipment ...shoes with no heels so you don’t make holes and the playing surface is kept as smooth as possible and the Lawn Bowling Club will let you borrow bowls for the first year.
