Joe Fortes

Joe Fortes is a seafood and chop house and it’s a favorite dining spot among local Vancouverites (pronounced “Vancoover”).

It’s the kind of place people like to go when they’re out for a fun evening on the town to see and be seen. And... It’s also known to be a spot where you might catch a glimpse of a Hollywood star or two while they are in town filming a movie.

When you walk into Joe Fortes the furnishings are all mahogany and marble and brass. It’s kind of like entering a saloon you might have seen in San Francisco in the early 20th century.

You can pull up to the huge horseshoe shaped oyster bar or enjoy your meal from about ten different areas in the restaurant like the dining room, the bistro, the atrium or the roof top garden.

There’s a lot of seafood on the menu including salmon and halibut but Joe Fortes restaurant also specializes in classic meals like prime rib and veal chops served simply grilled with fresh vegetables.

Joe Fortes restaurant is named after a local and beloved Vancouver hero who lived in small cabin on the beach at English Bay and taught hundreds of children to swim and saved the lives of many others. When he died in 1923 there was a record breaking funeral procession for him.

With more than 5,000 places to eat, Vancouver is considered one of the top places on the continent to have a meal out for both variety and quality. If you're hungry for something other than Casual, here are a few other of Vancouver's best. We've included a list of our favorites (including Joe Forte's) of Casual, Chinese Food/ Dim Sum, Latin American/Caribbean, French, Indian, Mediterranean, Sushi, Tapas, Thai, Vegetarian, West Coast Casual and if you're into some fine dining, we've listed our own West Coast Fine Dining too...
