Horseshoe Bay

Horseshoe Bay is a great sight-seeing trip only 20 minutes drive from downtown Vancouver (pronounced “Vancoover”). The drive alone is worth it especially if you go along Marine Drive all the way out there.

Driving out there is very scenic with big old houses that have awesome views of the water.

It can be a toss up between looking at the view and paying attention to the road but keep your eyes on the road because it’s narrow and windy.

You'll also need to watch out because there are hidden driveways although the locals just seem to zoom along... I wouldn't recommend trying it though because the locals know the Bay area and the roads like the back of their hand.

When you get there what you'll see is a charming little seaside village with barely a thousand people who live there.

There are tourist shops, cafés and restaurants with of course plenty of fish and chips.

If you've come for more than the drive you can do outdoor activities like sea kayaking, boating, scuba-diving, and hiking.

Horseshoe Bay really is tiny so it doesn?t take long to look around.

Spend an hour or two strolling around and then hop on the ferry and go for a short day trip from the Vancouver mainland to Bowen Island another 20 minutes away by ferry from Horseshoe Bay.

You can drive, bike or walk on the ferry. The Horseshoe Bay ferries leave every hour but they take a break between 12:05 and 2:30 in the afternoon. Ticket sales close five minutes before the ferry sets sail so make sure you have your ticket early or you can buy your seat for a specific sailing and then wander around the area.
