Gulf Islands Near Vancouver

Daytrip to Gulf Islands

The Gulf Islands are a bit more than a day trip from Vancouver (pronounced “Vancoover”) you’ll need at least a weekend to get there settle in and take some time to look around

There’s suppose to be more than 200 islands that make up the Gulf but you can only get to eight of them and you do that by ferry.

The people that live on the islands are mostly artists, writers, retirees, those who prefer to live a quiet life and people who have cottages and vacation homes where they can escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

Gulf Islands

The largest and one of the most popular of the Islands is Salt Spring Island with over 10,000 people who live there. Salt Spring is famous for growing organic food and also for having the most artists and crafts people living in one location.

The Gulf Islands are full of secluded beaches and wilderness trails for hiking and biking and other recreational activities like golf, horseback riding, kayaking, fishing and scuba diving.

There are plenty of great places to stay including bed and breakfast, inns and heritage homes but you have to book well in advance for your accommodations especially if you’re planning to visit during the summer or going there for a holiday weekend.

To get to the Gulf Islands you get on the ferry in Tsawwassen about an hour’s drive south of downtown Vancouver.
