Granville Island Vancouver

Granville Island Vancouver (pronounced "Vancoover") is a must-see place when you come to visit. Locals as well as tourist come here for all the attractions and events.

Granville Island isn’t really an island. It’s actually a little peninsula that used to be an industrial area before it got a facelift and was turned into a haven for artists and local independent small businesses …you won’t find any chains stores here.

Probably the main attraction is the Granville Island Vancouver public market where you can buy fresh local produce, fudge, home made treats and one-of-a kind hand-made goods.

I always love the way the fruits and vegetables are displayed. The way they do it is so attractive you almost don’t want to destroy it by picking up anything to buy.

On a sunny day Granville Island gets quite busy. People come out for a stroll along the seawall and False Creek area and to sit out on the pier with the seagulls.

There is usually some kind of entertainment going on like musicians giving performances for donations.

Besides shopping for unique gifts there is also theatres where you can enjoy a good quality local play or theatresports like a comedy show and…there are also a number of restaurants and a micro-brewery.

There are plenty of things to do here for kids too. There is another market on Granville Island called “Kids Only”. Here you find toy stores and specially planned activities for kids. One store I really like in the kids market is the store that only sells kites.

You can even stay here on Granville Island at the Granville Island Hotel which by the way is one of the best places to come for Sunday brunch.
