Granville Island Vancouver
Granville Island Vancouver is definitely a must-see place when you come to visit
Locals as well as tourist come here for all the shopping, attractions and events. Granville Island isn’t really an island. It’s actually a little penninsula that used to be an industrial area before it got a facelift and was turned into a haven for artists and local independent small businesses ...you won’t find any chains stores here. Probably the main attraction is the Granville Island Vancouver public market. At the market you can buy big beautiful bouquets of fresh flowers, fresh local produce, fudge, home made treats and one-of-a kind hand-made goods and crafts.
I always love the way the fruits and vegetables are displayed. The way they do it is so attractive you almost don't want to destroy it by picking up anything to buy. On a sunny day Granville Island can get quite busy with visitors sight-seeing and locals doing weekly shopping or just for a stroll along the seawall and False Creek area and to sit out on the pier with the seagulls. Where-ever you see a crowd gathered wander over and check it out. More than likely there'll be some kind of entertainment going on like musicians and clowns giving street performances for donations.
There are plenty of things to do here for kids too. There is another market on Granville Island called “Kids Only”. Here you find toy stores and specially planned activities for kids. One store that's really great in the kids market is the store that only sells kites. You can even stay here on Granville Island at the Granville Island Hotel which by the way is one of the best places to come for Sunday brunch.
