Fort Langley
A visit to Fort Langley National Historic Site is a sight-seeing day trip from Vancouver (pronounced “Vancoover”) This is a great place to go especially if you like learning about the days of fur trading and pioneers. The fort was a major center of business for the military during the early years of it and it was actually built by members of England’s Royal Engineers. The engineers were also responsible for building many parts of Vancouver and doing the surveys of the lower mainland that is known today as the Greater Vancouver Regional District. Many of the engineers who worked in and around Vancouver were given deeds for pieces of land which many eventually sold for wine women and song. But... if they had held onto them their descendants would be very, very rich because a lot of the land is what we know to be downtown Vancouver exactly where all the major hotels are not to mention the airport in Richmond, the Steveston area, and around English Bay where the apartments are now selling for $1000.00 a square foot. Can you imagine owning a full city block or two of downtown Vancouver apartments or Vancouver hotels? Today what you’ll find at the Fort is a mix of the old original buildings and reconstructed buildings. And... every year at the Fort they celebrate Fort Langley days where everyone gets all dressed up in costumes like the way it was back in the old fur trading frontier days. Sometimes Fort Langley gets confused with Fort Vancouver National Historic Site which is actually located just over the border in the United States in Vancouver, Washington. ...Return often for more exciting information on many more of Vancouver's best things to do, sights to see and local attractions.
