Coal Harbour
Coal Harbour is the body of water you see on the right hand side as you come into Stanley Park from downtown Vancouver (pronounced “Vancoover”). The harbour got it’s name because in the mid 1800’s coal was discovered here. From the seawall on the Stanley Park side of Coal Harbour you can look across and see the high-rise buildings that make up the downtown core. ...this is a popular place to take a picture. It makes a stunning backdrop and a great contrast between the natural beauty of Stanley Park and the architectural beauty of the city. One building that you'll spot easily is Canada Place. It's the one with the roof that looks sails on a ship. Another building that’s easy to make out is the one that looks like a haystack with a needle on top. That one is Harbour Centre. Harbour Centre has a revolving restaurant on top and if you go there you will get a commanding, panoramic view of the city and the mountains. Other sights to see in the harbour are the sea planes taking off on day trips and sight-seeing tours and the floating gas stations where boats pull in to fill up with gas. At one time before the causeway that takes you to the North Vancouver and divides Stanley Park was built, Coal Harbour would swell into Lost Lagoon on the far side of the park and would even go as far as English Bay. ...Return often for more exciting information on many more of Vancouver's best things to do, sights to see and local attractions.
