City of Victoria BC, Inner Harbour

Victoria Inner Harbour is the lively centre of the City of Victoria BC.

Passing through the downtown of the city it seems as if the street suddenly opens up and you find yourself a sheltered picturesque inner harbour surrounded by grand majestic buildings.

In the harbour are little boats that you can charter to go fishing or to take a killer whale watching tour.

You can walk around the waterfront and be entertained by street musicians, take a horse drawn carriage ride or find a restaurant/café and sit outside to take in the view and enjoy the surroundings.

Along the outer perimeter of the harbour are some of the grandest heritage buildings in the city.

Take some time to visit the legislative buildings of British Columbia with its murals, stained glass and solid marble columns on the inside and beautiful flower gardens, lawns and statues on the outside.

At night the legislative building is a spectacle when its lit up with over 3-thousand lights.

During the summer tours are available seven days a week and the rest of the year there are tours Monday to Friday.

On a recent visit to Victoria we stumbled upon a Veterans parade marching the short distance from the legislature to the Fairmont Empress Hotel.

The ivy covered turn of the century landmark has been restored to its former beauty.

Some say the only real way you can say you've been to Victoria is if you've stopped in at the Empress for afternoon tea (reservations recommended).

Also, a handy place to stop at the harbour is at the Visitor Info Centre to pick up some information and maps to guide you around Victoria to attractions and historic walks.
