Vancouver Chinatown Night Market
Vancouver Chinatown Night Market is an enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours on a weekend summer evening. Right in the heart of Vancouver Chinatown a few blocks are closed off and the market gets set up on Keefer Street between Main Street and Columbia Street. The market is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings from 6:30pm until 11:00pm starting around the middle of May until the beginning of September.
Starting at one end you make your way through vendor tables of reasonably priced and decent quality items. The merchants sell countless items including jewelry, hats, bags, shoes, clothing, traditional handicrafts and electronics. There's also a stage and chairs set up where you can sit and watch various local multi-cultural performers sing, dance, play instruments and perform martial arts on the street stage.
In a corner you may find a small group of men playing a Chinese checkers or some other board game while others look on. All the while delicious smells of skewered meat, corn on the cob and Asian specialty dishes fill the air. For anyone who likes to shop the market is a comfortable size with enough going on to keep your interest and at the same time you get a chance to see everything. While you are certain to hear lots of Mandarin and Cantonese being spoken don't worry all the merchants speak English so you won't have any trouble. The Night Market is the first of its kind in North American and is just a great little adventurous thing to do for an hour or two. ![]()
