Carol Ships

The parade of the Carol Ships has been a Vancouver (pronounce "Vancoover") tradition for over 40 years.

Vancouver Carol Ship

Up to 80 boats of all sizes dress up for the occasion decked out with Christmas lights on the outside. It’s really something to see.

Cruises usually last three sometimes four hours and they serve special holiday meals.

On weekdays the cruises are geared more towards family dinners and it also makes a special thing to do for small office parties.

On the weekends it’s party-time dine and dance. You can dance the night away under the stars or sit back and enjoy the spectacular view.

The ships like to vary their routes so you might spot them at different places like over in False Creek or passing under the Lions Gate Bridge past North and West Vancouver or going towards Second Narrows Bridge towards the shoreline communities of Port Moody and Deep Cove.

As you see the carol ships pass stop and listen closely and you will probably hear the sound of music. The boats have carolers that lead the singing of Christmas songs.

Along the route shoreline communities sometimes plan special activities like bonfire celebrations with roving performers and collect food for the needy.

Most of the carol ships start their cruises at the beginning of December and go until the day before Christmas Eve.

It’s a great way to celebrate the season and get into the festive spirit.
