Brockton Oval

Brockton Oval is the grass playing field a few hundred yards from the Georgia Street entrance to Stanley Park.

It’s basically a wide open sports field where sometimes in the summer you will see the military brass band from the army reserve unit 15th field Artillery parading and pretty much every Sunday afternoon there will be people out there playing cricket.

Brockton Oval is the first parking area you come to in Stanley Park (remember all parking in the park is pay parking) and it’s a perfect place for meeting up with friends before you set off around the park.

The tour buses pull in at Brockton Oval and the passengers hop off and shop at the concession stand and gift shop for snacks, Vancouver (pronounced “Vancoover”) souvenirs, postcards and calendars and to make use of the washroom facilities.

Two popular Stanley Park attractions are also right here the Totem Poles and the place to get on board a Horse Drawn Carriage Ride.

Right across the street is one of the best places to take a picture. The view is the Trade and Convention Centre and the downtown core with all the high rise office buildings.

You may notice sea planes and helicopters taking off on air tours in the harbour.

And...

An unusual sight you will see out on the water is the floating gas stations out in Coal Harbour for pleasure craft.

The boats just pull up to the floating gas station just like you do in a car on land and say fill-er-up!
