Brackendale Eagle Count

Brackendale is a short trip from Vancouver (pronounced "Vancoover") along the Sea to Sky Highway that also takes you to Whistler the home of the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Every year hundreds of people drive to Brackendale and they do a thing they call the "eagle count".

When you go up there make sure you bring your binoculars and your camera because you can volunteer and get involved in the eagle count and see thousands of bald eagles (some balder than others!).

The eagles gather in this area in the fall before they leave on their migration to warmer areas. I was told to think of it as a family trip where everyone travels together...

If you're lucky enough you might even see eagles swimming in the water. So yes they do fly and they can swim too! Maybe they are just having a bath to wash off all the sweat from traveling there...

You can also visit the fish hatchery called the Tender Foot Fish Hatchery and you can watch the fish in various stages of spawning or being released.
