Biking University of British Columbia

In Vancouver (pronounced "Vancoover") there is some nice mountain biking on the University of British Columbia Endowment Lands.

Biking University of British Columbia

You don’t need to be an expert or anything to ride along most of the paths and they are all really well marked with signs so you don’t get lost in them.

While riding at the University (we call it "UBC") you also see people jogging, walking and some times even riding their horses on the paths. The University is like no other university I’ve ever been to because there is so much that you can do in nature to take a break from your studies or if you’re not going to school there taking in some nature and biking exercise.

As for nature, you’ll see all kinds of small animals like fox, coyote, rabbits, owls a few hawks and if you go there in the early mornings, you may even see some of the deer that live there just keep an eye out for the skunks there too!

You can bike or run for hours just be safe and courteous to the other people using the paths and trails.

I do NOT suggest you go in the university endowment lands after dark as it may not be safe. Occasionally people do and have been known to be attacked while in there alone.

Another safety tip I found out about a few years ago is that if you are biking or running in the UBC Endowment Lands don’t put your hair in a ponytail...

People have been attacked by owls thinking the ponytail was their lunch or supper which to the owl or hawk would make sense when they eat squirrels who also have tails and move around a lot.

If you do wear a ponytail, think about stuffing it into your shirt so it doesn’t bounce around like a squirrel’s tail does.

Overall, biking in the UBC Endowment Lands is a really fun time and you can go down to Jericho beach after to take in the view or just to ride down the hill.
