BC Place Stadium
Against the Vancouver (pronounced “Vancoover or “Vankoover) skyline BC Place Stadium looks like one large cotton pillow or maybe a fluffy marshmallow. Our stadium is the largest air supported (inflated roof) stadium in the world.
Many of the big concerts that come to Vancouver happen here as do the trade shows, outdoor show, health and lifestyle show and car shows to name only a few with a capacity of over 55,000 people, it’s easy to see why. One year the stadium hosted a New Year’s Eve concert featuring The Three Tenors. It was odd to see people all dressed up to go the opera and sit in the stadium for a concert... Yes I was one of them! Besides holding concerts and trade shows in Vancouver, BC place stadium is also home to the BC Lions who are our City’s NFL (National Football Team) team. (For those who are not from North America, football here means “American Football” and not soccer.) At the main entrance to BC Place Stadium is a huge statue of Terry Fox the one legged runner who ran all the way across Canada to raise money for cancer research.
Even though he’s passed away millions run each year in their local towns to raise money for cancer now. The statue is a common place to meet up with friends before going to a Vancouver event. Since the stadium is right downtown close to all the major hotels in Vancouver, it’s walking distance for everyone. I’d suggest meeting at the Vancouver library. There’s also lots of Vancouver transit stops in the area as well. Personally I like taking in some moderate to fine dining downtown and then walk past GM Place and over to the stadium to see the event. Then again I also like to do that and then go to the Vancouver Art Gallery or see the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. (I just like dining so any excuse is good enough for me!) ...Return often for more exciting information on many more of Vancouver's best things to do, sights to see and local attractions.
